Job Summary
City Food Equipment, a leading commercial restaurant equipment company serving the Chicagoland area since 1985, is seeking an experienced Service Department Manager to lead and oversee our commercial equipment service operations.
This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for managing technicians, coordinating service calls, and ensuring efficient, high-quality service delivery to our customers. The ideal candidate is highly organized, mechanically knowledgeable, and experienced in managing service teams in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily service department operations (scheduling, dispatching, workflow)
- Answer incoming service calls and schedule repair appointments
- Manage service calendar and technician assignments
- Coordinate team meetings to ensure communication and accountability
- Ensure technicians are prepared with proper parts and tools
- Assist customers with service tickets and repair inquiries
- Monitor technician performance, paperwork accuracy, and service efficiency
- Conduct performance reviews, coaching, and corrective actions
- Prepare quotes, invoices, and process payments
- Maintain service records, parts tracking, and reporting
- Collaborate with other departments to support overall operations
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required (Associate’s or technical training preferred)
- 3+ years of mechanical experience (restaurant equipment, HVAC, automotive, or similar)
- 2+ years of supervisory or management experience
- Strong knowledge of equipment, parts, and service processes
- Ability to create estimates, work orders, and calculate labor
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
- Ability to work in a warehouse environment
- Valid driver’s license preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing a service department (restaurant equipment or similar industry)
- Familiarity with service/dispatch software
- Experience improving processes and operational efficiency
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
